Pokémon Emerald ROM hack

Every battle is a pinball table.

Tilt Emerald is a random, vibe-coded Emerald hack built entirely with AI. Chain wild wins into combos, chase multiball shinies, take on a brand-new gym, and tune the game with 14 extra options.

Build the ROM in your browser

Drop in your own copy of Pokémon Emerald and this page applies the Tilt Emerald patch for you. Everything runs locally. Your ROM is never uploaded anywhere.

How it works

  1. Bring a clean Emerald ROM. It must be the US release of Pokémon Emerald (game code BPEE), unmodified.
  2. The page checks it. It verifies the file's checksum so a bad dump never produces a broken game.
  3. The patch is applied. A small patch file (about 1 MB) rebuilds Tilt Emerald from your copy, and the result is checked again.
  4. Download and play. Use any GBA emulator, a flash cart or a 3DS GBA setup.

Don't have a ROM? Dump one from a cartridge you own. This site doesn't provide or link to ROMs.

What's inside

Tilt Emerald keeps the Hoenn adventure intact and bolts a pinball machine onto it.

Core mechanic

Combo wins

Every wild win or catch adds to a combo. Longer combos push encounters toward the rare end of each area, raise their levels, boost catch odds and pay out coins, Rare Candies, Master Balls and full heals.

Shinies

Multiball

Every 7th hit sets up a guaranteed shiny with a second shiny waiting behind it. Beat or catch the first and the next one jumps in, all inside one battle.

Table

Pinball extras

Bumper flowers, combo decay, ball savers, flippers, bank shots, slingshot crits, jackpot berries, Tilt Storms, a daily challenge, a high score board and a Start-menu combo HUD.

NPC

Pinball Wizard

Find him upstairs in the Littleroot Pokémon Center for rules, a shop, a heal menu and a Training service that maxes two chosen stats and all IVs of a Pokémon for 1500 coins. Pokémon Centers are broke here, so healing costs money unless you land a HEAL TICKET. A Petalburg City side quest rewards the PINBALL PHONE key item, which calls him from anywhere. A second key item, the LUCKY DICE, is a coin-for-prizes gamble handed out in Slateport City.

Gym

Cody's Gym

A winding gym hall with a Dragon Gates gimmick, four gym trainers, a guard who quizzes you, and Cody with a Flygon dragon team. Battles unlock at 8 badges.

Dungeon

Pinball Table

A maze full of bumpers and flippers, ending in the TABLE KING.

Late game

Dream Island

Become Champion, then ask the Sailor by the Ever Grande Pokémon Center for a ride. Three leaders wait up the stairs and starters from other regions roam the grass.

Story

Characters and scenes

Watch the famous trainer Falcon win a 6-on-6 exhibition battle on Route 104, then face him yourself on Dream Island. Joseph's Pikachu rematches and a 2-on-2 tag battle with Team Aqua, an Oldale Town mini story, a Steven Stone cutscene on Route 102 and about 15 scattered NPCs.

Balance

Scaled trainers

Trainer levels scale with you, so battles stay level with your team instead of falling behind.

New starters

Birch's bag now holds Pikachu, Trapinch and Aron. Your rival always takes the one that counters yours.

Rival teams

Every rival fight uses the matching line: Pikachu and Raichu, Trapinch and Vibrava, or Aron and Lairon. Pikachu still evolves with a Thunder Stone on your own team.

Options menu

The Options menu has four pages (press L or R to flip). Everything beyond the original settings starts off or at its classic behavior.

FAQ

Which ROM do I need?

An unmodified US Pokémon Emerald ROM (game code BPEE, 16 MB). The builder checks its checksum and tells you if it's wrong.

Is my ROM uploaded?

No. The patch is applied entirely in your browser. Nothing leaves your device, and this site hosts no ROMs, only the patch.

Will my old save still work?

Yes. Saves stay valid from v5 onward, so you can keep playing across updates. The ROM uses 128 KB flash saves with a real-time clock. If your emulator asks for a save type, choose 128K or 1 Mbit flash.

The builder says my ROM doesn't match.

The file may be a different region or revision, a ROM that was already patched or trimmed, or a bad dump. Dump a fresh copy from your own cartridge and try again. A 512-byte copier header is removed automatically.

Can I patch it myself instead?

Yes. Download tilt-emerald.bps and apply it to your Emerald ROM with any BPS patcher such as Floating IPS. You can also build from source using the instructions in the README.

Is this official?

No. It's a fan project built on the pret/pokeemerald decompilation and isn't affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak or The Pokémon Company.
